Jerry Yanz came (for the first time) to show us his plans for a wood frame recumbent. He was only recently converted to bents by Chad Parrish and has decided to jump right into the deep end by not only building one but making it out of wood! (But this is not such a big leap for Jerry because he has experience building wood boats.) He will probably adapt it from the Termite Taxi plans, which have a pretty well worked out system for making the main frame tube with a foam core and wood facings and some extra stiffeners buried in the foam, but he will modify it to be more like a Tour Easy in configuration and wheel sizes after trying Carl's Gold Rush Replica and loving it.
He asked whether we thought he should use a rear suspension as on the plans, but the consensus was not to bother with this added complication considering it will be a LWB bike with fairly large and fat tires. It should be a pretty bike, since he plans to use marine mahogany verneer on the main box frame rather than the more ordinary wood specified on the plans. Good luck, Jerry, and make sure you bring bits (and eventually a finished bike) to the meeting some time!
